Inflammation usually starts out as a defense mechanism, which means your immune system gets activated when it encounters something foreign in your body. One effective way to fight inflammation is eating the right foods, according to experts. So-called anti-inflammatory foods contain antioxidants and polyphenols, which are protective compounds. Those can help prevent, delay or repair some types of cell and tissue damage. Getting the right anti-inflammatory foods can help reduce your risk of illness. If you are looking for a diet, your food should include tomatoes, olive oil, green leafy vegetables (spinach, kale, and collards), nuts (almonds, walnuts), fatty fish (salmon, tuna, sardines) and fruits (strawberries, blueberries, cherries, oranges). Coffee also contains polyphenols and other anti-inflammatory compounds. Staying away from processed food may also have a positive impact on your physical and even your emotional health.
Among the foods that can cause or increase inflammation are sugar and high-fructose corn syrup, alcohol, artificial trans fats, vegetable and seed oils, refined carbohydrates and processed meat.
