If you still haven’t decided on your New Year’s Resolutions for 2019, here are six health New Year’s Resolutions for happier you.
Be Mindful With What You Eat
With TV being so easily accessible and smaller living spaces being popular, it’s so easy to eat while you are glued to a TV screen. However, eating when you are distracted leads to overeating. Take your time to slow down and pay attention to your food. When you eat mindfully, it’s easier to notice when you feel satisfied and more likely to enjoy the food that you are eating.
Be Grateful
At the beginning and end of every day, it’s important to reflect on what you are grateful for. Keeping a journal is a great way to take this time to yourself and diminishes stress. Staying positive has been proven to develop a sense of balance and enhance your well-being.
Walk
You already know that 30 minutes of exercise a day is recommended for your health. Although it’s hard to find time in your busy life to dedicate 30 straight minutes to working out, try walking consistently for 30 minutes a day in 10 minute sessions. Try walking during your lunch break with a coworker, or instead of driving to your local coffee shop, leave early and walk.
Make Small Changes
Parking further away from the grocery store, opting for the stairs, or committing to a morning stretch after waking are all small but effective ways to be healthier. Try setting your alarm for just 10 minutes earlier than usual to give yourself 10 minutes to yourself. Just setting time aside for you to sit and enjoy your morning coffee rather than drinking it on the go is a great way to have a meditative morning.
Rest
We all sleep, but do we provide a better environment for our sleep? When it’s time to sleep, darken your room and lowering your temperature. 60% of people actually fall asleep to the TV which can prevent you from slipping into REM sleep. If you are well-rested, you are more likely to make healthier decisions the next day.
